Melancholy Mixing Bowl begins with brown sugar tumbling into the bowl, sweet almond folded through the batter, and a hint of juicy pear that feels like something familiar you can’t quite place.

Then comes the soft part—pillowy marshmallow, delicate heliotrope and a whisper of orange blossom melting into a warm, cake-like heart. Vanilla and caramel cling to the edges, while tonka and soft musk settle underneath like the scent left behind in a kitchen long after the last batch has come out of the oven.

It’s sweet. It’s cozy. It’s a little nostalgic.

Like making a cake from an old recipe and realizing somewhere between the mixing bowl and the first bite that you weren’t really craving cake at all.
